It seems strange to know that a railway station was closed due to a ghost and that too when the station has been opened for only seven years. This railway station is in Purulia district of West Bengal, named Beguncodor railway station. This railway station was opened in the year 1960 by valuable contribution of The queen of Santhal, Mrs. Lachan Kumari. After opening this station, everything was fine for a few years, but later strange things started happening here. In 1967, a railway employee of Beguncodore claimed to have seen the ghost of a woman at the station. Along with this, rumours also emerged that she had died in a train accident at the same station. The next day that railway employee told the people about it, but everyone ignored his words.
The trouble began when the station master of Beguncodor and his family were found dead in the railway quarters. People living here claimed that the same ghost was involved in these deaths. It was claimed that whenever a train passed through here after the sun set, the ghost of the woman used to run along with it and sometimes ran faster than the train and overtook her. Apart from this, several times the Ghost was claimed to be seen dancing on the tracks ahead of the train. After these dreadful incidents, Beguncodor started to be considered a ghostly railway station and it was also recorded in the railway records. The fear of this woman’s ghost inside people had increased so much that people stopped coming to this station. Even the trains also didn’t stop at this station, because neither any passenger wanted to get here nor did anyone come to this station to board the train due to the fear.
However after 42 years, in 2009, at the behest of the villagers, the then Railway Minister Mamta Banerjee once again opened this station. Since then, no claim has been made to see any ghost at this station, but still people do not stop or come at the station after the sun sets. At present, about 10 trains stop here. This station, which has become famous as Bhootiya railway station, it has become a tourist attraction & many tourists came here every year.
